Summary & Details
New Era Colorado is seeking passionate, energetic part-time student organizers to mobilize young people to advance abortion rights and make an impact on this issue both on and off campus! Fellows will work together on a small team on their campus to lead the charge to protect abortion access, educate their peers about the issue, and combat abortion shame and stigma. They will work closely with New Era’s Multi-Issue Organizing Team to collect and share stories, plan and facilitate educational events, and build a community of pro-abortion access advocates. These positions offer an incredible leadership and professional development opportunity at the forefront of New Era’s expanding advocacy program.

Position Details, Compensation, and Benefits
This is a part-time, seasonal position that begins on January 10, 2022 and ends April 29, 2022, with opportunities to stay on for up to three semesters. We are hiring for positions at Auraria. Pay is $16 per hour, with 10-13 hours of work expected per week. Applicants will need to have consistent availability during some weekdays (M-Fri. 9am-5pm) to table on campus and complete other work responsibilities. Preferred start date is January 10th. Onboarding will take place the week of Mon. Jan 10 – Fri. Jan 14

Job Responsibilities

  • Educate students on campus about abortion access in a radically inclusive manner through peer-to-peer conversations on a weekly basis, utilizing tactics such as tabling and class and student group presentations.
  • Build and maintain a base of abortion access supporters, volunteers, and student leaders through recruitment (tabling, phonebanking, and relational organizing), regular communication/outreach, and leading one-on-one meetings and trainings.
  • Plan and facilitate events (both in person and virtually) aimed to train, empower and mobilize advocates to talk about and organize around abortion.
  • Strengthen pro-abortion access visibility through weekly visibility tactics, such as flyering on campus, creating content for our social media platforms, and distributing branded materials such as our stickers and pins.
  • Contribute to changing campus culture by leading actions that support abortion access and challenging threats to abortion access on campus and statewide.
  • Keep track of metrics and progress to goals both through Google Spreadsheets and our volunteer data system EveryAction.
  • Lead 1-3 areas of work: data management, coalition building, volunteer recruitment and development, event planning, visibility, media, and fieldwork.
  • During spring semesters, there will be opportunities to participate in the legislative process and uplift work regarding reproductive freedom during the Colorado General Assembly legislative session.
  • During fall semesters, there will be opportunities to participate in the electoral process and educate people about the connection between electoral politics and reproductive rights.
